There was an early demo at GDUK last September. I was told (by a reliable source - Rob B) that the core rules were based on 40K (I don't know which edition). From memory, the first release would cover basic trench warfare then later supplements would add other theatres and dogfights. I may be remembering that wrong. I think this is mass war in microcosm rather than small skirmishing warbands.

Hi Folks
we have now
pretty much finished up the rules.
And yes, a hmg is still a nasty piece of equipment but as there are
limits on how many you have, if you deploy them poorly, then they are
not much use. The HMG dominated battlefields, and getting a balance was
difficult, but after several versions, I think we got there..
The core game rules do not deal with the stereotyped trench assault,
they deal with the more open warfare of the early and late periods of
the war (although you can still do trench assaults, just don't pick even
pointed forces as the attacker will fail!).
The middle part comes in a series of future supplements and include
trench raiding scenarios with small amounts of models, which of course
should ideally appeal to those of you posting here!
Kind regards
